Ken Koshio is going to perform in Native Trail at Scottsdale Center for the Art as prayer.

Thursday, March 31 Noon - 1:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 2 Noon - 1:30 p.m.

All events take place on the outdoor fountain stage on the north side of the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts (Second Street & Drinkwater Boulevard in downtown Scottsdale). Lawn chairs or blankets are recommended.

Every January through April the outdoor amphitheater at the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall, just north of the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, comes alive with Native American music, dance, art and traditional food.

Meet the Cast of Native Trails
The performers of Native Trails represent a variety of First Nations from across North America. In addition to Derrick Suwaima Davis (Hopi/Choctaw), the artistic director of Native Trails, this year’s cast includes: Tony Duncan (San Carlos Apache, Arikara/Hidatsa/Mandan), Violet Duncan (Northern Cree), Toby Jose (Akimel Au-Authm), Perry Thompson (Diné), and Taiko drummer Ken Koshio of Japan.

Tribal Royalty
In recent years, Native American communities have formed pageant committees to select cultural ambassadors to represent their individual Nations. These ambassadors hold titles of royalty, and will be in attendance at Native Trails on selected Saturdays.

Arts & Crafts
Native American artisans, jewelry makers and tribal elders from around the state will showcase and sell their work throughout the season. Delicious Fry Bread also will be available for sale at every performance, so come enjoy lunch and Native Trails!

Hi everyone.

Let's start to do whatever you can for this happening.
We need to get together to help each other.

I am going to sing and play taiko everyday somewhere as a prayer.
Please don't give up everyone who are in the middle of this.

We can do something for them and you can do whatever you believe that it is good cause for them.
And then we can be as one. Don't waste the life we lost.

We need to learn a lot of things from this and now for the future.

It is the end of WWII day in Japan

I haven't write nothing after Hiroshima Calling ended last year.

We had great moments to learn and share what was reality of living war in Hiroshima last year with people from Hiroshima in Az.

8.15.1945 was the end of the WWII day in Japan.

It was the Japanese surrender day in WWII.

We don't need to have anymore sad stories anywhere by killing people each other.

We are family on this planet.

Love is tender, but love is strong to make people alive.

I don't know what to say about what I have here at PHX City Hall Atrium.
It is a great meetings with interesting and interested people in this exhibition here.

Please visit and feel what I am talking about.

We need to learn what is the most important thing for us to be a faithful human beings.

Love is still here, however we easily forget what it is.

Love is faith.

Love is truth.

Love is real.

We need to know how to be centered!!

History is teaching us what we've done, some were good and some were bad.
We really don't know what is truth for God.
I believe that we do our best whatever we do with our faith.
This is only way that I can be as Ken Koshio to be realaxed here.

I want to be love instead of asking someone to love me.
It is not easy for me, however it is worth to try to do.
Because I want to be loved instead of hated by people around me.

I want to live in Peace and Love.
So, if I could be love itself, it is already existing here.
So, if I could be love, I must be in peace.
So, if you could be love, you must tell me what love is without words.
Because you are love itself.
I feel you as love, I understand what love is.
Because you are real as love.

I want to be love.

Someday, we are going to love itself.

“HIROSHIMA CALLING”

Promoting peace and education through art and cultural exchange.

There are only two cities that experienced the Atomic Bomb - Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. These two cities have offered Atomic Bomb poster exhibits to every state in the US through the end of 2008.

The Arizona exhibit, “Hiroshima Calling” is sponsored by WYVEAA (World Youth Visit Exchange Association of Arizona, 501c-3) in Collaboration with local artist and musician Ken Koshio. Hiroshima Calling has been gifted two poster exhibits that will visit Arizona at five different locations October through November, 2008.

The Indigenous Preservation Society of Hiroshima, a traditional taiko music group founded by Itsuki Munakata, will accompany the posters adding a unique, artistic and historic perspective to the exhibit. Mr. Munakata is a survivor (Hibakusha) of the Atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima August 6, 1945 - he was just 6 years old at the time. He will bring 3 members of his taiko troupe from Japan to share traditional taiko music and Hiroshima tunes with the people of Arizona. There will be many highlights along the way, including a unique collaboration with Native American and Arizona artists near the Grande Canyon. It is important to note that Mr. Munakata is a well known Shinto Priest, and NOH artist, recognized across Japan.

It is said that the uranium used to make the Atomic bomb that was dropped on Japan was taken from Native lands of Northern Arizona. It is of great historical importance for an Atomic bomb survivor to visit this place and to connect with the people of Arizona through art and culture. This exhibit provides an opportunity to share and to recognize our past while making a prayer for peace and hope for the youth of today that will carry us tomorrow.
